It is an adventurous trek that offers spectacular features and stunning mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of alpacas, llamas, chinchillas, picturesque villages and traditionally dressed Quechua-speaking people.
The 5D/4N Ausangate Glacier Trek is located at the beginning of the Vilcanota mountain range and traverses the highest peak (Ausangate 6,385m/20,948 ft) in the Cusco region, this trek is approximately 1,500 km long and climbs up to 5,400m/17,710 ft.

Pick up from your hotel in Cusco for this adventure will be at 6 am the duration will be 4 hours by a new road to the Tinqui village passing through Urcos Pass (4,000 m/13,123 ft) on the way. Tinqui is a town in the high plains of the Altiplano east of Cusco where we will begin our hike, we follow a wide and gently uphill hike to the northwest of Ausangate Mountain. At the place we will have a snack lunch at 12:30 pm with impressive mountains, at sunset you will see the llamas and alpacas, we will ascend to the Upis Pass and camp in the Upis hot springs, where we will be surrounded by snowy mountains (Ausangate and Maria Humeantilla). There are hot springs where we can enjoy a natural bath with medicinal waters, at the end of the day dinner prepared by the chef awaits us.

This day we will wake up with a coca tea and a delicious continental breakfast. After breakfast we begin our 3-hour uphill hike to the Arapa Pass 4,800 m/ 15,748 ft. From this point we will have a wonderful view of the Ausangate Mountain and Maria Huamantilla. After the Arapa Pass, we walk along an arid hillside for 30 minutes. Then we descend steeply for 45 minutes into a valley of glacial lakes and waterfalls of a deep blue lake. At this place we will have our lunch next to one of the lakes. After lunch we continue for 2 more hours of gentle ascent to our second pass of the day, the Ausangate Pass 4,700 m/ 15,419 ft. At the top we will have a beautiful view of the snowy Ausangate and the Ausangate Cocha lagoon, formed by the melting of a glacier. Then we continue uphill for 40 minutes to our campsite next to the moon Aunsagatecocha which is located at the foot of one of the Ausangate glaciers.

This day we wake up with a hot breakfast and a stunning view of the lagoon, the hike begins with a 3-hour uphill climb on the glacial moraine to the highest point of the hike, the Palomani Pass 5,400 m / 17,716 ft. From the pass there are extensive views of all the peaks of the Vilcanota mountain range. Afterwards we descend for 2 hours along a steep path to the Huchuy Finaya valley where we will have a delicious lunch of the day there we will see the twin mountain. After enjoying all this we continue our hike for 3 hours to the campsite to the Pampa Cancha valley 4,300 m/14,107 ft.

Today we leave at 7 am from our camp, uphill to Qampa Pass 5,400 m/17,716 ft for 2 hours. At this pass we will have amazing views of the 3 peaks, the Pacchanta Valley and with luck we will see some vicuñas and wild deer, if we are very lucky, a condor. Then we gradually descend through the Pacchanta Valley, walking between Ausangate Mountain and the 2 Twin Mountains for 2 hours here we stop for lunch, after lunch we continue descending gradually for another 2 hours to our camp in Pacchanta Valley. From this place we will have a view of Ausangate Mountain the highest snow-capped mountain in the Cusco region, there are also hot springs, and you can enjoy all of that before dinner.

As every day we wake up early with coca tea and a delicious breakfast prepared by our COCA EXPEDITIONS TRAVEL chef; our walk continues along a varied and gentle path to the Tinqui village through open fields and mountains and valleys. We arrive at the place where we will have lunch and have our last view of Ausangate, in this area you will be able to see potato crops and herds of llamas and alpacas. At this point our private transport awaits us back to Cusco to your hotel for 3 hours, arriving around 4 to 5 pm.

Physical Requirements
This hike is difficult due to the altitude, good physical condition is highly recommended; Ausangate hike elevation changes make the hike difficult as there are four steps during your hike.

The Ausangate trek can depart any day of the week, from March to January.
